HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS EPISODE:
I posted a reel (on Instagram), which is about whether you’ve been expecting to use letter names or letter sounds when teaching your child to read. I had a comment on that real, which was ‘they’re getting that at school. And most of the time we can already learn these things from videos.’ This got me thinking about who’s responsibility is actually to teach children to read. And what role do parents actually have in this reading process?
TOPICS COVERED:
- “partnership” between parents and teachers
- the reality of teacher’s time , what they actually ‘teach’
- interventions usually with teaching assistants that often drop off timetables
- practice falls to parents- we spend more time 1:1 than anyone else
