Help kids read and feel like real chefs with my phonics-friendly recipe method.
Turning every recipe into a hands-on learning experience (even if you’re not a teacher!)
After spending 100’s of hours using recipes with kids, I’ve created a real-life way to practice reading, while growing the important life skill of cooking.
⭐️ turn everyday cooking into powerful reading lessons
⭐️ help your child gain confidence in both reading and cooking
⭐️make reading fun and hands-on whilst practicing phonics in a natural way.
encourage problem-solving and following directions
follow recipes at your child’s own pace with 3 reading levels
spend quality, screen-free time together
give your child a head start on independence and life skills
Nicola loved the illustrations in the recipes. So much, that her girls asked to make the recipe twice in one week.
This is the EXACT breakdown of what goes into each recipe and what makes these visual recipes so special.
So simple, right? I did all the heavy lifting to make the recipes work for even the earliest of readers – All you have to do is print them out!
Visual grab-and-go recipes: Every recipe is carefully designed to build reading skills for early readers.
Each recipe comes with 3 levels of reading difficulty. These recipes make reading feel natural, interactive, and fun
A cooking curriculum: These recipes aren’t just about reading—they also form a getting started with cooking curriculum. Your child will progress step-by-step, gaining confidence in both reading and cooking.
No bake recipes and recipes to use with groups plus, versions to download just for your child’s reading level
[Bonus] The Road to Star Baker Success Map: A success map that guides your child from beginner to confident reader and chef.
[Bonus] Mini reading assessment to know the best recipe level to start with your child
Children learn best when they’re engaged in real-world activities, and that’s exactly what this approach provides.
With visual, step-by-step recipes, your child will naturally practice reading while having fun in the kitchen.
They’ll want to read because it has a real purpose—helping them create something delicious.
What I have learnt from using recipes with kids in a classroom and with my own kids, is that although we are being told ‘recipes are great for kids reading‘ and ‘they can learn so many skills from cooking‘, even kids recipes are not broken down enough for them to follow.
When it comes to reading, they are either completely made up of pictures or the other extreme with sentences like ‘pour in the dry ingredients’.
For a 5-year old that’s a lot of brain power to work out.
